DLMARSHALL PHOTOGRAPHY / BEYOND PHOTOGRAPHY/ YING AND YANG CONCEPT

Echo

It has recently come to my attention I have 2 dominating factors that make up my artwork styles. One is that of an end of life photographer and the other is my fine art photography. They appear to be at the opposite ends of the spectrum. One is vibrant and full of energy, while the other is muted and sincere. Why is this? To answer that question I had to examine my own thoughts and feelings. Why did my art have a Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde concept. Simply put, my art styles are my representations of the give and take theory.

The one end of the spectrum with muted and gentle tones express my sincerity and respect which is deserving with end of life photography. The gentle tones allow the attention to be centered on the essence and emotions of the moment without the distraction of color. It is through my end of life photography I attempt to take the emotions and give them life.

The other end consist of vibrant colors and textures. I’ve been an artist for many years now and most always leaned toward the energy of colors and texture to express myself. As we usually associate living with vibrancy and texture, I want to bring the attention of that brightness and color of the physical life to others. Through my fine art I attempt to take life and give it emotion.

The one aspect both styles have in common is the sense of softness and gracefulness exhibited. I struggle with strict hard lines. They give me the sense of restriction, no room for growth or expansion. Whereas the easiness of soft lines feels more willing and free.

There you have it, the ying and yang concept as it pertains to my art styles.

Best Wishes
