DLMARSHALL PHOTOGRAPHY / BEYOND PHOTOGRAPHY; SEEING THE ESSENCE

Coming And Going

Photographer Willis Peterson wrote in his book, ‘The Glory of Nature’s Form’, “An image must have a vibrant composition so that it will live. It has to inspire a thought. It has to communicate a statement – this is spring, or this is fall or this is love or this is you, etc.” He goes on to write, “it needs to take that additional step of discovering the spirit or essence associated with the subjects physical being.”

These descriptions of photography is pertinent in end of life photography. End of life photographs must have a composition that will live on and inspire thoughts of the magic that had been and continues on, through memories obtained in those photographs. They also need to communicate the love and compassion that is shared between each other.

DLMarshall photography strives to do just that, acquire the essence of one’s life story. It is not just snapshots of the periodic moments of family and friends gathering, but rather to expose the invisible connections that are only apparent through the true nature of the moment. To convey the emotions that were experienced in that exact moment that exhibits those unified connections.

DLMarshall Photography aspires to create works of art for private or public use, that will assist the healing process of grief from losing a loved one. By evoking the memory of a relationship that prevails beyond the physical absence, photographs can help one heal. Furthermore, I attempt to obtain the essence of the affection and humanity in one’s life story. A life story is more than just people and items, it is the connection to those people and things that exist which creates each story.

I not only focus on the relationships between people, but those things that forged the story of the person whose life is being celebrated. Items that gave them enjoyment, comfort and peace. An avid fisherman has a lucky fishing rod and reel, the gardening enthusiast has a particular flower that brings them pride and joy. A pair of running shoes that brought them comfort through each step. Even the morphine that gives them tranquility and peace at the end. These items are relevant to their life’s story.

End of life photography allows their story to live on to be shared and honored.

What has forged your life?

Best Wishes
